Is Jason Bourne an hero or an anti-hero?
If you tried to decide whether or not Jason Bourne, from the Bourne series, was either a hero or an anti-hero, you would need to look at his actions throughout the movies and see if they fall under the basic hero side. In my opinion, he shows traits of being an anti-hero more then he shows signs of heroism. For one, he always puts his own needs first before the saftey of the general public. For example, he engages in car chases through the the streets of Paris, darting from lane to lane, just to avoid arrest. Another example backing the idea of him as an anti-hero would be when he was confronted by two policemen for sleeping in a park. He chose to go with fight over flight (a basic hero stereotype would never pick harming civilians especially police officers, over fleeing) just so he could evade capture. At times in the course of the movie, Jason even chose to kill someone in order to better his chances of succesfully escaping. One example would be the hit man sent to capture Jason and Marie. The typical hero would unrealistically just tie down the hit man, while inflicting as little harm to him as possible. Finally all through the film he is always self-involved with his own mission; his own well being is his only conern. When you look at it from this perspective, you will understand Jason Bourne is practically the definition of an anti-hero
